In 2021, it was reported that 2 out of 5 adolescents were pregnant in Alta Verapaz. In Guatemala there are 22 Mayan languages, however, the use of Spanish predominates in health services, which prevents many adolescents from going to health centers. The school’s director told her about an education programme, supported by UNICEF through the UN Joint Programme, in Dar’a city. It welcomed children with visual impairments.

Farha, mother of 2 children, and 9 months pregnant, is living for about 2 years in the camp. Today she came for a prenatal visit to the health center.

Global warming will hit us faster, the UN body sees temperatures rising by 1.5°C in the next 20 years. The report concludes that ice melt and sea level rise are already accelerating. Wild weather events - from storms to heat waves - are also expected to worsen and become more frequent.
