In Guatemala there are 22 Mayan languages, however, the use of Spanish predominates in health services, which prevents many adolescents from going to health centers. UNICEF, with the support of the Academy of Mayan Languages, continues to contribute to the Ministry of Health to strengthen the National Plan for the Prevention of Adolescent Pregnancies, guaranteeing comprehensive, differentiated and culturally relevant health

Hoping to help Kotada regain some sense of normalcy and make friends, Ghoussoun approached an elementary school in the village. The school’s director told her about an education programme, supported by UNICEF through the UN Joint Programme, in Dar’a city. It welcomed children with visual impairments.

Disability

Farha Mahamat, a 24 years old pregnant woman, at the health center of the Darfur refugee camp, in Kouchagui Moura, about 40 km from Abeche, in the East of Chad. Farha, mother of 2 children, and 9 months pregnant, is living for about 2 years in the camp. Today she came for a prenatal visit to the health center.

Global warming will hit us faster, the UN body sees temperatures rising by 1.5°C in the next 20 years. The report concludes that ice melt and sea level rise are already accelerating. Wild weather events - from storms to heat waves - are also expected to worsen and become more frequent.
